What an honor for me to do a review for the Journaling Power book by Mari L. McCarthy of CreateWriteNow.com. I meet Mari through a nonfiction authors’ group on Facebook and it was an instant connection. In fact, in 2020 I wrote the guest post “Journaling Dreams for Personal Growth” for her website. When I was asked to participate in the Wow! Women on Writing Tours for Mari’s book, I instantly knew it was the right fit.

My Review for the Journaling Power Book

This journaling book was a fascinating and fun read for me. Mari shared her own life story of how writing in her journal relieved and reduced her pain of multiple sclerosis. In this book, you will discover how her personal history, unresolved issues/emotions, and workaholism caused havoc on her life and health. However, the author is talented enough to share her story without overwhelming the reader with too much information.

Next, Mara informs the reader of her amazing life changes upon her personal journaling journey… To avoid limiting the reader with just her story and/or for those who think journaling could be nonsense, she devotes a chapter to scientific studies on journaling.

In each chapter, there are journaling prompts for that chapter’s topic. I was impressed with the author’s guidelines and exercises on how to journal for beginner and experienced journalers.

How the Journaling Power Book Inspired Me

Now, I’ve been journaling on and off for decades. Here’s nine different types of journals I kept:

  1. Diary when I was a child.
  2. Dream journal from 1990 to 2000.
  3. Daily gratitude lists.
  4. To write about and heal my issues.
  5. Letters to release emotions.
  6. Money and business stories.
  7. Goals for life and business.
  8. Life lessons I learned.
  9. Hair products – being a curly girl is one heck of a journey.

As you can see, I’m no newbie to keeping a journal. Although it’s been a while that I’ve been constant at it, reading in order to write a review for the Journaling Power book reminded me of how important it is to journal. Not only that, it inspired me to be consistent about journaling to the point that I feel off balanced if I skip a few days.

Journaling was a lifesaver to me for writing down my precognitive dreams about my cat, Merlin’s death and writing letters to him after he crossed. This helped release my grief and all the other feelings that are associated with the loss of a loved one.

Whether you are new or experienced to journaling, I highly recommend this book. Just the journaling prompts are worth the money. Mara’s life changing story will give you hope for the future!
